Medicare Enrollment: What You Need to Know About Employer Retirement Plans (Continued)

The Kaiser Family Foundation also reports that 90 percent of Medicare Advantage Plans in 2020 include prescription drug coverage, and 93 percent of Medicare beneficiaries have access to these types of plans with a $0 premium. If your employer’s retirement plan doesn’t include these benefits, you would have to pay out-of-pocket for standalone coverage.

Medicare Advantage Plans are also offering more non-medical supplemental benefits in 2020. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 96 percent of Medicare Advantage Plans include meal benefits in 2020, 92 percent include transportation, 59 percent include telehealth benefits, and 54 percent include in-home support benefits.

If you don’t take the time to consider other plan options during Medicare enrollment, you may miss out on plans that include some or all of these options for little or no extra cost. In fact, according to The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), 2020 premiums for Medicare Advantage Plans are the lowest they’ve been in 13 years, with the average premium being around $23 per month. They also report half of all Medicare Advantage Plan enrollees pay no premium at all. You’re still required to pay your Medicare Part B premium.

Plans and Benefits Change Every Year

Even if you’re enrolled in your employer’s retirement plan, and you have been happy with it, it’s a good idea to review it every year. Carriers may change plans and benefits every year, so there may be new plan options available in your area that include benefits that are important to you. Our convenient online enrollment portal makes it easy for you to compare available plans side by side to make sure you’re getting all the benefits you’re entitled to receive. And, Medicare Advantage Plan enrollee satisfaction has been on the rise. According to a Better Medicare Alliance poll, 94 percent are “very satisfied” with the care they receive under the plan, and 94 percent said they’re satisfied with the selection of doctors, physicians and specialists offered.
