6 Essential Questions to Ask When Requesting Medicare Quotes

Evaluating Medicare quotes can be overwhelming and it’s an important decision. You want to choose a Medicare plan that’s a good fit for your needs and lifestyle. Ask these six questions to make evaluating Medicare quotes easier.

Is this plan available in my area?

This is a basic but vital place to start. Medicare plans are specific to geographic areas, often determined by zip code and county. You want to be sure the plan you’re reviewing is one of the plans offered in the area where you reside.

Am I eligible for this plan?

All Medicare beneficiaries don’t qualify for all Medicare plans. Plans are sometimes restricted based on certain characteristics or medical conditions.

And, of course, you must be enrolled in both Medicare Parts A and B to enroll in Medicare Advantage Plans.

Does this plan have coverage for the care and services that are most important to me?

What healthcare services do you use most? Which benefits best support your lifestyle? Listing your answers to those questions can help you evaluate Medicare quotes with your priorities in mind.

What will my costs be under this plan?

Costs include multiple categories: the premium, co-pay, deductible, and for some plans, prescription drug costs. Add up those costs and compare them to your current healthcare costs or your budget for healthcare spending.

Are my healthcare providers included in this plan’s network?

Many Medicare plans have a specific network of healthcare providers that must be used by members in the plan or have lower costs for plan members. If your healthcare providers aren’t in-network with a plan that’s a good fit for you, you may wish to change providers or choose a different plan. Either way, you’ll want to know about your providers’ status before enrolling in a plan.

What are the costs of my prescription drugs under this plan?

Some Medicare Advantage Plans include prescription drug coverage; others don’t. There are also stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) you can enroll in. Either way, you’ll want to review the plan’s formulary—the list of prescriptions drugs covered and at what cost.
