Looking for Medicare answers online? We’re here to make your search a little easier.

Can I enroll in Medicare online?

Yes, many carriers allow individuals to enroll in Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans online. In fact, you can enroll in Medicare plans from a number of carriers through easyMedicare.com’s online marketplace.

If you decide to take the DIY Medicare online enrollment route, we recommend our tips for online enrollment to help you make an informed choice. Online enrollment for Medicare Advantage plans is subject to all of the same eligibility guidelines and enrollment periods from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

When can I enroll online in Medicare plans?

The timeframe in which a person can enroll in a Medicare plan online is no different than it is for enrolling offline. Individuals can only join or change Medicare Advantage plans during designated enrollment periods.

Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)

The Initial Enrollment Period, which begins three months before an individual’s 65th birthday, is often the first chance to join a Medicare Advantage plan. This seven-month enrollment period is a good time to research plans and make an unhurried choice that will meet your needs.

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) occurs yearly from October 15 to December 7. During AEP, all Medicare beneficiaries can join or switch Medicare Advantage plans. Learn more about AEP.

Special Enrollment Periods (SEP)

A Special Enrollment Period (SEP) allows an individual to join or change Medicare Advantage plans. These enrollment periods are triggered by specific conditions, including:

  • Moving to a new location
  • Losing current coverage
  • Dual-eligibility: Medicare and Medicaid

Learn more about Special Enrollment Periods.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP)

The Open Enrollment Period (OEP) is a little different, because it only applies to individuals who are already enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans. From January 1 - March 31, individuals can make one change between Medicare Advantage plans or swap from a Medicare Advantage plan to Original Medicare only. Learn more about OEP.
