Original Medicare doesn’t include prescription drug coverage. That why, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 45 million beneficiaries were enrolled in Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) in 2019, either standalone or as part of a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C). More Plans Are Available

The Kaiser Family Foundation reports 948 Prescription Drug Plans are available in 2020. This is an increase of 47 more plans compared to 2019. Low-income Subsidy (LIS) beneficiaries now have 244 Prescription Drug Plans available in 2020, 29 more than in 2019.

A Phased Approach

Prescription Drug Plans in 2020 have three main phases—an initial coverage phase, a coverage gap or Donut Hole Discount phase, and a catastrophic coverage phase.
