Medicare Enrollment Online

Medicare beneficiaries looking for Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement plans can review and enroll in plans online.

Medicare Online

Online enrollment in a Medicare Advantage plan can be really convenient! You can do it from anywhere (anywhere you have a device, anyway) and you don’t have to call different carriers to review their plans. The freedom of online comes with one potential downside: DIY means you take on all the responsibility to choose the right plan.

We have some tips for making the best of online enrollment.

Compare multiple carriers

In most areas of the country, Medicare beneficiaries can choose from several carriers (and carriers may offer multiple plans). That means looking around at the different carriers OR choosing an enrollment tool that allows reviewing plans for many carriers at once. Evaluating all the choices is just good due diligence.

Find your doctors

As most people are aware, different Medicare plans have different networks. Treatment or services from doctors or hospitals that are not in the network of a plan may not be covered. When enrolling for a Medicare plan online, check to see if your physicians and pharmacy are in-network. Choosing a plan with your doctor in-network isn’t required, but many beneficiaries prefer not to switch doctors.

Read the fine print

Licensed Medicare insurance agents often assist individuals in reviewing the terms of a plan and evaluating the plan’s fit with the individual’s needs. The agent is often already familiar with the details of the plan as well. Doing enrollment online for yourself means you take on the responsibility of evaluating the details of a plan. Take your time understanding the plans and search for keywords related to the services or coverage that are most important to you.

Don’t pay extra!

You should not have to pay for online enrollment. In fact, agents and agencies are not allowed to charge fees. Agents are paid by the private insurance companies, which are contracted with the federal government. Legitimate companies offering Medicare plans will not charge you to enroll online.
