Medicare Advantage Online: Survey Shows Enrollees Give Plans a Thumbs Up

Thinking about researching Medicare Advantage online? You’re not alone. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) projects 24.4 million people will choose a Medicare Advantage Plan for 2020—an all-time high. There are a few things you should know to help you make a confident decision.

Medicare Advantage Enrollee Satisfaction Is High

Before you enroll in Medicare Advantage online, you may be pleased to know studies show a high level of satisfaction by enrollees. According to a poll conducted by Morning Consult, 94 percent of respondents were satisfied with their Medicare Advantage Plan and 62 percent reported the plan was “a better choice” compared to Original Medicare.

One of the main upsides, according to the poll, was better care coordination. Here are a few other Medicare Advantage Plan perks that may explain why these plans are becoming more and more popular:

1. Extra Benefits

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) covers emergency care, preventative, and medically necessary services and supplies. This includes doctor visits and hospital care. However, it doesn’t cover dental, vision, hearing, or prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Advantage Plans cover everything included in Original Medicare, and many plans offer extra benefits, often with no additional premiums. The Kaiser Family Foundation reports 90 percent of 2020 Medicare Advantage Plans include prescription drug coverage, more than 80 percent provide some dental, vision, hearing, or fitness benefits, and nearly 58 percent provide all four of these benefits.

2. Expanded Non-Medical Supplemental Benefits

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has made it increasingly easier for Medicare Advantage Plans to offer supplemental benefits, offering coverage for services you wouldn’t typically expect in Medicare plans. Actuarial consulting firm Milliman reports that 364, nearly 12 percent, of 2020 Medicare Advantage Plans will offer expanded supplemental benefits, compared to only three percent in 2019. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 33 percent provide transportation benefits and 46 percent offer meal benefits. When you’re looking for Medicare Advantage online in 2020, you may even find plans that offer home-based palliative care, safety improvements like widened doorways and shower grips, and benefits to help caregivers.

3. Budget-friendly Premiums

The cost of healthcare is top of mind for most Americans. It may put you at ease when researching Medicare Advantage online to know the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports Medicare Advantage monthly premiums in 2020 are set to be the lowest in 13 years. CMS estimates the average 2020 Medicare Advantage Plan monthly premium to be $23, and some Medicare Advantage Plans have a $0 premium, deductible, and copay.

Prescription drug coverage is getting more expensive all the time. And yet, 90 percent of Medicare Advantage Plans in 2020 include prescription drug coverage, 49 percent with no premium, other than the Part B premium.
